A View From the Wall
Some people have no problem making decisions. They know exactly what they want and do whatever is necessary to get it. Others have no idea what they want and are content to accept whatever life brings their way. Then there are those who sit on the wall or as I used to say, "sit on the fence". At first the fence seems like a very good place to be because you can look over either side and see what is going on. The problem is revealed when the person sitting on the fence or wall has to make a decision based on what is on either side of the wall and can't decide what to do. It is quite upsetting when you have to make a decision based only upon what you see but without any supporting facts. Nehemiah (Nehemiah Chapters 1-4) was building the Jerusalem wall. On one side were the workers helping to build the wall with their sword in hand in the event of trouble. On the other side were the men who despised them and the work that they were doing to rebuild the wall and were doing all they could to stop the building. Nehemiah's view from the wall gave him the vantage point of seeing the enemy, refusing to bow to their demands and not only continue the work himself but encourage others to continue also. He knew the wall had to be built for their protection. What is your view? Are you sitting on the fence/wall helpless or are you confident enough to sit on the wall like Nehemiah, understand the situation and be committed to rebuilding the wall and ready to face any opposition? Exactly what is your view from the wall?
