Stranger In My House
You know that eerie feeling
You get when something's wrong,
When you're anticipating danger
And the minutes seem...oh....so...long?
I had it just the other day
The epitome of a louse
As I discovered the feeling came
From the stranger in my house.
From where I stood, I watched this man
With boldness, he walked in.
He marched through the living room
And stopped inside the den.
He opened all the doors as if
In search of a particular thing.
He was distracted, not one bit
By the phone as it began to ring.
Those piercing eyes searched the room
For an object not in view.
They landed on a leather black book.
I didn't know what to do.
He turned the pages, one by one
Until he found the dove.
The message must have been most powerful
For he looked the picture of love.
I ran to read the message
That had caused this man to cry.
My hands trembled, my knees fell weak,
I know it was no lie.
The message put in that black bound Bible
To the stranger in my house
Had turned the heart from stone to flesh
Of my husband, my mate, my spouse.
