Throwing Stones
"Sticks and stones may break my bones ..." is a proverb that I've heard since I was a child. I often thought of the end of that proverb more than the beginning, i.e., "but words will never hurt me". That is until I heard of how they stoned Stephen and killed him, or how in the Old Testament many were stoned for adultery or some other violation of the law. Stones and words both hurt, both even to the point of death. Some say that the best defense is a good offense. I'm kind of leery about dodging rocks and even if I live after the attack, I know what pain feels like in the aftermath of a severe attack.
David killed Goliath with a sling shot and a stone. I'm not good at that. So what do I do? I'm getting ready to meet my opponent. I know that Jesus is my Rock and I choose to throw Him at those who throw earthly stones at me. Read 2 Samuel 22:1-3. I'm getting ready by understanding that the same way that God delivered David, he will deliver me when I need it. Like David, I understand that the Lord is my Rock and I will trust in Him. When I'm hit with the rocks of this world, I'll hit back with the Rock of my Salvation. Throwing this Stone is a sure winner for whatever stones are thrown at me
