Look Behind The Wall
Yesterday I read a heartbreaking story of a young boy who was treated horribly by his stepmother. Sadly her children and the young boys biological father treated him with such disdain that he was compared to the male version of Cinderella. The father and stepmother are currently being prosecuted for several charges relating to child abuse.
The thing that captured my attention to this article was that in addition to the many autrocities that he endured was the fact that the young boy was not allowed to sleep with the rest of the family. His stepmother had built a sort of false wall in the house and he had to sleep there without adequate clothing or bedding through all the seasons of the year. He was allowed to use cell phone but only in the presence of the stepmother. Any calls made to his biological mother were monitored and he was thoroughly convinced by the stepmother that his biological mother did not love him and did not want him. His one attempt at confiding in school officials led to them announcing their visit prior to coming to the house which gave the stepmother ample time to hide what she was doing.
After 4 years, this young boy was able to use technology and call his mother in another state in a way that would disguise his call and not reveal it to the stepmother. He told his biological mother what was actually happening to him and pleaded with her to rescue him. The young boy emphasized that she should tell the authorities to "look behind the wall". The mother immediately called 911; police were dispatched and sure enough they found the young boy and returned him to his biological mother.
I am reminded of Ezekiel 8:5-18. God wanted the prophet Ezekiel to see what his people were doing when they thought that He could not see them. He told Ezekiel to dig and when he dug in the wall, he saw the wicked abominations that the people were doing. The wall may hide some things for some time but that does not mean that the things being done are not known and will not be revealed. What are you doing behind the wall?
