Get Up!

I'm older now, in man years that is. I am also a few pounds heavier in weight. I have never been particularly fond of exercising but I do love to walk. When I was younger and less full bodied, it was not a problem to squat to perform some routine or necessary chore and even run a mile or two. Lately, If I have to crouch or sit on the floor, I must brace myself and do a "heave-ho" to get the momentum to raise myself or embarrassingly ask for assistance. I have heard of a number of individuals who have "fallen and can't get up". Unfortunately, I personally know several individuals who have fallen and can't get up. Some were experiencing the effects of a stroke, diabetes, or other related disabling condition. Some were just too "heavy" or weighed down.

Sin bloats us, weighs us down and robs us of the strength we need to "get up". Similar to dealing with physical conditions, the weight of sin can be just as real; keeping us from getting up, i.e., from poverty, sickness, illness, disease, etc.

I want to bounce up again. I want to run. I don't like the helpless feeling of not knowing if I will be able to lift myself if I fall. I must remedy the situation now. Others have done it. Why can't I? The spiritual remedy is available but takes effort on my part. Wherefore seeing that I am compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, I will lay aside every weight and the sin which does so easily troubles me and I will run with patience the race that is set before me. (Hebrews 12:1)

Have you fallen? Can you get up?
