Mistaken Identity
Many of us have had the experience of seeing someone we thought we recognized and approaching them only to find out that they are not who we thought they were. These awkward situations call for a quick response to an obvious error. Most of us recover nicely with a quick apology and are soon on our way.
There was a man who presented himself as a wedding guest. Apparently he felt that his appearance would be mistaken for an official wedding guest but was he quickly discovered by the king. The king asked him why he was there. The man could not think of an answer fast enough; he was speechless (Matthew 22:11,12). The king had his servants bind him hand and foot to be taken away to a horrible place. All this for pretending to be someone or something that he was not. I do not believe that this was a regular prison that we know of today. I believe there was an eternal consequence to this man's actions.
Some unfortunate individuals have been thrust into prison and worse for a crime that they did not commit because of mistaken identity. Fortunately the forensic sciences today have improved the fingerprint and DNA analysis of crime scenes such that it often carries more weight than a witness' testimony. Many individuals have been released from prison because of this advance in technology.
I wonder if any of us will be mistaken for Christians on judgement day. We look the part. We act the part. Will THE Judge mistake our identity? His DNA test is perfect. Selah
