My Name is John
I was listening to a particular pastor on TV as he was explaining to his congregation how he was propositioned by a woman on a ski lift. As I remember the story, he was with his family but somehow in the line to board the ski lift, he inadvertently wound up with this seducing woman beside him. Being propositioned, he explained to the woman, “I am married”. She promptly responded that that was of no significance to her. The pastor then went on to explain “…but I’m married to a man”. She was so taken aback that she immediately ceased her pursuit.
Is it possible for a man to love another man so intensely that it is stronger than the love of a man to a woman? Ask the apostle John. He is listed in the Bible as the apostle whom Jesus loved (John 13:23). He was so close to this man Jesus that he leaned on His breast at the last supper (John 21:20). When Jesus died, John was at the crucifixion beholding the agony that Jesus not only suffered for the world but for him specifically (John 1:26). John received the charge to care for the mother of the one who loved him and took her unto his own home (John 1:26,27). John outran Peter to go to the sepulcher when he was told that Jesus was no longer there (John 20:2,3) but had risen from the dead.
Historical Christian records say that John loved Jesus so much that he continued to preach the gospel about him while in a pot of boiling oil and that he survived. John was banished to the isle of Patmos (Revelation 1:9) and continued to commune with Jesus, receiving end time revelations.
You say that you are a man and that you love another man. Is the name of this man Jesus? Do you love this man as much as John did? Are you showing this by your actions?
Oh, by the way, I forgot to ask you your name. My name is John.
