Slippers Under My Bed
Men generally wear tough shoes in order to work. Some wear steel toed boots. A steel-toe boot (also known as a safety boot, steel-capped boot or safety shoe) is a durable boot or shoe that has a protective reinforcement in the toe which protects the foot from falling objects or compression, usually combined with a mid sole plate to protect against punctures from below.
Often after a hard day's work the shoes are removed and replaced with a nice pair of slippers. I heard that one man at the end of a particularly hard day at work could not find his slippers and had to drop to his knees to carefully look under the bed. While he was down on his knees, he began to pray and ask God to bless him, his family and others that he had encountered during the day.
What a coincidence - or was it? He had not prayed in a long time and when he did, it was usually a quick prayer and often interrupted before it was completed. Now there was time, opportunity and desire. After many hours, he finished praying and was more refreshed and rested than he had remembered being in years.
From that point on, every morning he literally threw his slippers under the bed, forcing himself to get on his knees to pray when he returned from work. It was the beginning of a beautiful fellowship with the Lord. It laid the foundation for him praying with his own son.
What are you doing to establish your fellowship with God on a continued basis? How about throwing your slippers under the bed?
