I’ve Fallen And I Can’t Get Up

Per Wikipedia, "I've fallen, and I can't get up!" is a line spoken in television commercials for LifeCall, a now defunct medical alarm and protection company. I have seen it used by many on TV, life situations and especially comedy with varying responses.
I personally have had my number of falls in life. One that is most memorable to me is a fall that I took in our living room. I was standing in front of the fireplace when my name was called. I did not remember the ottoman was directly behind me. I took a half step backwards to respond as a full step was impossible from where I was standing. It was just enough to make me lose my balance. It seemed as if I fell in slow motion; reaching for something stable to break my fall but there was nothing there. I fell backwards and hit my head so hard on the floor that I broke about 4 or 5 of the plastic rollers that I had in my hair. What a sight. I was like a turtle that had fallen on its back. My arms and legs were up in the air. I was immediately offered assistance to get up but I realized that my body was probably very tight and any movement would make any possible injury worse. I stayed in my awkward position for several minutes, praying and purposefully willing my body to relax. After several minutes, I felt comfortable enough to lower my limbs, roll over and crawl to the couch a few feet away. By God’s grace, I had no repercussions from that fall; no sprained or broken bones, no headache, or other injury. I had fallen and I was able to get up.
I was recently thinking about many persons who have a similar fall and are not able to get up; some not right away and others not at all. Many land in a cast, wheelchair, or bed. I further reflected on those who fall in this world and are not able to get up – spiritually. What happens to a person who leaves this life, i.e., dies and finds himself or herself like the rich man in Luke 16:19-31. The beggar was carried into Abraham’s bosom but the rich man looked up to Abraham and saw Lazarus at his side. However, the rich man had fallen and he could not get up out of there. It is one thing to have fallen on this earth. It has its finality only in the ability of the ability of modern medicine and the individuals tenacity to overcome. However, it is impossible for you to have fallen into the clutches of hell and get up out of there. The Bible says so, it is accounted unto man once to die and after this the judgment (Hebrews 9:27).
I will not ask you if you have fallen and cannot get up. If you still have the breath of life in your body, you have not fallen to the point that you cannot get up. Read the Bible. Learn about what Jesus did for you and me when He died on the cross, was buried and rose on the 3rd day (1st Corinthians 15). He died for our sins. If you believe and walk in this knowledge, you will never fall and cannot get up. Selah
