Lick the Dust
The phrase "lick the dust" means to be slain or fall in battle. Satan not only fell from heaven but in the book of Genesis (Genesis 3:14) God told the serpent that from that day on, he was going to crawl on his belly and "dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life". This is further reiterated in Psalm 72:9 They that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him; and his enemies shall lick the dust. Look at Isaiah 49:23 And kings shall be thy nursing fathers, and their queens thy nursing mothers: they shall bow down to thee with their face toward the earth, and lick up the dust of thy feet; and thou shalt know that I am the Lord; for they shall not be ashamed that wait for me. Micah 7:17 They shall lick the dust like a serpent, they shall move out of their holes like worms of the earth: they shall be afraid of the Lord our God and shall fear because of thee.
The old cowboy pictures were quite entertaining when one cowboy ( usually dressed in black) would tell the other gunslinger (usually dressed in white) to "lick the dust". I never had a real appreciation for the depth of that phrase until I saw these scriptures in the Bible. Lick the dust! I am more than a conquerer in Christ.
