It Wasn't Just a Box
I'm not a fan of exchanging "secret" gifts at the workplace but when I was working I did try to participate in the office activities as much as possible. Once I received a small box, approximately 2"or 3" by about 4". I must admit that when I first saw the package and started opening it, I was sure that it was some kind of jewelry. I literally had to hide my shock as I opened the gift only to find that it was just a little box. I'm not certain if there ever was a gift inside or if the box was the gift. Those who witnessed the opening shared my surprise. I had to convince myself that this was the best gift that I had ever received. It was a humbling experience. I still have the box.
Exodus Chapter 25:10-22 speaks of a "box" which is actually called the ark of the covenant. This portion of scripture gives explicit details of how the "box" was to be constructed. Hebrews 9:4 describes what was inside which was the golden pot that had manna, Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant . In the end, it was the place where God met with man. The glory of the Lord appeared where this box was located behind the veil of the temple. My box did not have anything in it but it is a constant reminder to me of the glory of the Lord. It wasn't just a box.
